The word sacred means, “Set apart, made holy.” The standard bearer for a sacred life is The Ten Commandments: Honor God, don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t murder, respect your spouse, and respect your neighbor. Honestly, these commands are more then a bit beyond our reach; they are an impassible canyon separating us from the sacred life.
This impassible canyon is one of the ways a person who is seeking a sacred life can understand who Jesus is. If Jesus is just a man, he can only make a man or woman as good as any other man or woman. However, if Jesus is God, then he can make a person more than any another man or woman; he can make them sacred. Jesus can make us meet the standard of sacred; something that is beyond our reach, something that is beyond our grasp.
